Anyone else have that friend who always has the softest, smoothest legs ever? And then when you point it out she’ll be like, “Oh my gosh you’re crazy; feel how they prickly they are, I haven’t shaved in 6 days!” And then you feel them and can’t roll your eyes hard enough because you’re quite certain your legs weren’t ever this soft even on the day you emerged from your mother’s womb. Needless to say, I’m the rolling of the eyes friend in this scenario. I don’t even have super dark hair, but it just kind of grows spikey like a cactus. And even when I do shave, I just don’t have that silky type of skin that I’m so envious of! This might have something to do with how terrible I am at drinking water, but even still, I just naturally have always had dry skin and hair. Just recently though I’ve finally discovered a way to achieve the soft silky skin I’ve always wanted! It requires a little effort, but I’m generally pretty lazy so don’t worry -it’s not ToOo much work and only involves these 4 steps:
1st: DRY BRUSHING
I’ve just recently learned of this concept! Basically all you do is use a bath scrub brush like this one, and brush it over your skin in small circular motions prior to taking a bath or shower. What you’re doing is brushing away dead skin cells which then encourages new skin cell renewal, thus resulting in smoother brighter skin! (Bonus: it also helps to prevent ingrown hairs.)
2nd: SUGAR BODY SCRUB
I’m completely obsessed with this Sugar Body Scrub from Beautycounter. This is the best “treat yoself” $40 purchase you’ll buy all year. It’s a gentle exfoliant yet it leaves your skin feeling SO SOFT. The lemongrass citrusy scent is just icing on the cake. I feel like I’m at the spa every time I use this jar of goodness. This is for sure my favorite step in the silky skin process!
Sorry, this is by far the least interesting step in this process but obvi a necessary one. I’m personally a Venus user, even Matt likes to use the Venus razor on his face! This is the one I like best after trying a ton. I try to change my blade once every couple of weeks because it seems to really help in getting the best shave.
4th: BODY BUTTER
This is the final step! Another Beautycounter favorite of mine is this Body Butter. The name does not disappoint… it literally will leave your skin feeling like butter. But WITHOUT that greasy feeling! Just incredibly hydrating and nourishing. It’s very gentle and perfect for dry, sensitive skin.
That’s it!! I hope this helps anyone else who rides the dry skin struggle bus!
